Christmas Spirit

As the first snow flies for this winter season I am reminded how important it is that we care for ourselves, especially now during the holidays.  We have come a long way from our ancestors with our new technologies, our computers, our cell phones, and being connected 24 hours a day to the rest of the world.  But we have also lost our connections to ourselves and the rest of the world.  We have lost the secrets to a longer life, a healthier diet, and a stronger sense of belonging that our ancestors shared Christmas spirit.

Christmas spirit has changed meaning for so many of us and our children.  Christmas spirit is the feeling of joy, peace, and giving.  Joy in knowing we are able in this fast paced society to open our hearts at Christmas and feel the magic of timeless faith.  When all is a fantastic journey together with those around us hearing the sleigh bells, feeling Jack Frost nipping at our noses, and smelling chestnuts roasting over the fire.  All of our senses are heightened to a Peace of knowing Christmas will soon be here.

Christmas, not the day, not the season, but the feeling….the feeling our bodies, our minds, and our spirits join together in believing to our core that we are at Peace.  When we are connected in faith and peace all is possible, all we can do is emanate giving, we can’t help it….it is our special gift to give.  It is our power meant to be shared with the rest of the world…it is Christmas Spirit; it is the meaning of Christmas.  This is our balance.  We work, we push ourselves beyond our limits, we stress our daily existence, but now it is the time to care for ourselves and take our place in the sharing of Christmas spirit.

With less stress, better life skills, and a health and wellness awareness program we can live longer, happier, more fulfilling lives all year long.  Start this Christmas season with a plan that begins with being in the moment, being aware of your surroundings and connections.  We start with our bodies by drinking plenty of water, practicing mindful eating, and an exercise plan 3 to 5 days a week. We must also make a plan for getting enough sleep.    With these basics of the body the next step of the plan is to connect to the mind, by reducing stress, we need to allow ourselves to be in the moment with our senses, hearing the sleigh bells ringing, feeling the nipping, and smelling the chestnuts.

Great stress reducers include meditation, journaling, and massage.  Taking a few minutes to reflect on the day’s activities and appreciate our strengths, our challenges and our successes we give space to our priorities.  As we allow our minds to relax we can facilitate the connection between our body, our mind, and our spirit.

The ultimate balance, I BELIEVE IN BALANCE, and I know this is where we find our very own wealth of power.  Massage is a fantastic appreciation of this connection.  Regular massage has many benefits including reducing stress, releasing tension in tired muscles, and allowing the mind and body to open and connect to the spirit.  The balance we seek that leads us to our sacred power, our freedom, our joy that connects us to ourselves, to our loved ones, and to our community.  This is Christmas Spirit!!
